In what extent do EU /EFTA member states carry out audits of official laboratories? Is it considered sufficient that official laboratories are accredited, or are additional audits for assuring compliance to the control regulation carried out? Ensuring that the laboratories are

-          noticing National Reference Laboratories (NRL) and food authorities when finding health threatening agents,

-          sending (e.g. salmonella) isolates to NRL for verification,

-          informing and cooperate with NRL on methods

-          getting NRL follow ups on proficiency tests (PT) etc.

-          participating in meetings/workshops and PT organised by NRL
